BT Voices for Hospices 2000 |

History of the event Nine years ago, Sheila Hurton decided to hold a concert for her local hospice in Cobham in the local Methodist Church and raised £1,000. Realising that this could gather momentum, Sheila set about planning a much larger event for the same charity on a national basis. It grew swiftly over each successive occasion, to the famous world wide triennial event that it now is after 9 years - BT Voices for Hospices. The event is generously sponsored by British Telecoms on the clear understanding that at least the Halleluyiah Chorus from Handel's Messiah is sung in the evening's programme. Choirs, orchestras and bands join together in a worldwide event of their choice to attract the largest audiences, sing and play the 'greats' and 'popular' classics and raise the greatest amount of cash for hospices internationally. Guernsey participated three years ago and the Island Churches Guernsey Festival Chorus and its Muscial Director, Roy Sarre have organised and planned once again their choice of an evening of music, of excitement and fun - The Last Night at the Proms. Guests will be the Guernsey Concert Band, Musical Director Simon Applegate and the London based organist Robin Littler. We raised £5,000 in 1997 - let's try to top that this year! | Roy Sarre | | Musical Director, Island Churches Guernsey Festival Chorus | | 17th July 2000 |
