| The Guiton Guernsey Ambassador of the Year Award NominationThe choir received the following nomination for the Guiton Guernsey Ambassador of the Year Award for 2002. The award is made annually to the person or organisation who, in the opinion of an independent panel of judges, has brought the greatest recognition and credit to the island in the past year. The Island Churches Guernsey Festival Chorus "Since 1985, the members of the Guernsey Churches Festival Chorus have shared their talent and their faith with audiences far and wide. The Choir continue to make regular visits to Jersey and perform at St Davids Hall, Cardiff. The annual visit to Sark was very well received in 2002 and their popularity ensures to take them back year after year. The Chorus is also part of a Christian Arts foundation, which makes up a European network of organisations. The Choir regularly hosts Guernsey's own 'Last Night at the Proms' evening at St James and through music and song, have promoted Christian and ecumenical harmony as well as the importance of patriotic identity. As leader of the Choir, Roy Sarre has a unique rapport with his audience, whatever the occasion. Apart from the family Christmas concerts, the Choir holds a Good Friday concert and at least two specific events in June, especially for holidaymakers. With support from Tourism and Horticulture, Roy organised a special concert for visitors last year as part of Floral Guernsey. The high level of involvement in local events, is what makes this Choir stand out from the crowd." |
