| Songs to move youIsland Churches Guernsey Festival Chorus perform their Good Friday ConcertMore than 500 people filled St James concert Hall for the Island Churches Guernsey Festival Chorus concert on Good Friday. This year marked the 15th anniversary of the Island Churches Guernsey Festival Chorus and the 14th consecutive Good Friday concert - the choir's most significant concert of the year. Guest musician Simeon Wood evoked an emotional atmosphere with his flute and panpipe music. Narrator George Foote - a well known personality in the local church and arts scene, read the Easter story from 'The Message' a modernised version of the Bible written in up to date American English. Becky Guilbert and Mark Langlois provided accompaniment on the piano. The audience, which included a variety of European visitors, was asked not to applaud, but to reflect on what they had seen and heard. It was a very moving experience. "Music for a Good Friday is a compilation of passion music - remembrance of the Lord's death" said Roy Sarre, Musical Director. "If you do not move anyone then what is the point?" After reserving their praise for the performances during the concert, at the end, the hall erupted into applause. Participation was encouraged in other ways and the audience was asked to join in several of the songs. "People become very involved with the concert" said Mr Sarre.
