| Easter Story Comes to LifeBlind Pianist helps Chorus bring the Easter Story to Life - April 2001A blind pianist led a 100 strong choir in front of more than 500 people at St James on Good Friday. Welshman Peter Jackson represented the famous Christian disciple St Peter as the Island Churches Guernsey Festival Chorus took the congregation on a journey of events in Christ's life from Palm Sunday to Good Friday for the 15th year running. 'It was an absolutely wonderful occasion' said musical director Roy Sarre. The choir sang songs to continue the story throughout the service called 'Music for Good Friday'. Six different choir voices took the part of Jesus' trial halfway through the programme with all the choir voices creating the noise of the mob who turned on him on Good Friday. 'The concert was a most moving narration and indication of all that happened up to Good Friday' said Mr Sarre. There were also solo performances by Jose Paine and Ruth Smale. The accompanist for the choir was Anne Warren. 'It was requested at the start of the programme that there would be no applause in order that the audience and the choir could be reflective all evening, which means so much personally to committed Christians' added Mr Sarre. 'One of the many comments from people afterwards, was the personal portrayal of St Peter by Peter Jackson which enabled everybody present to identify with the weakness of humanity in relation to the strength of the Christian faith' - Roy Sarre, Musical Director Article reproduced from the Guernsey Press, 20th April 2001 See also Veronica Johnstone's report and the Good Friday page For More Information on the Choir contact:Mr Roy Sarre, Musical Director |
